As soon as I heard about this project, I got hyped. Fuck … I mean … it’s Wu-Tang Clan and dubstep. What’s not to love? Yea … then I heard the first two singles. From that point, I knew I was gonna be disappointed. The singles were poorly executed and probably some of the worst tracks on the project. Then I got the whole album the other day. At first I thought it was complete garbage. It’s just a bunch of Wu-Tang affiliate dubstep remixes. However, I must admit that a few of the tracks have grown on me.
Normally I would drop the whole release, but I don’t feel like getting a c&d today, so I am just gonna post a couple of tracks that weren’t featured as singles. You can decide if you want to take the time to find the rest of the album.
Local hero Mr. Kinetik dropped this on his blog the other day as the single for his new project the Ghost of Mr. Kinetik, and I have been meaning to post it since then. Nothing about this track is outstanding except how tight Kinetik’s lyrical game has become. The first time I ever caught him shine like this was at the final night of Saturday Night Live @ Front Page at the end of the summer. Hopefully his prowess on the mic continues to improve. Dude could be a beast for Indy.
Look at this … another tack off of the Clipse’s album Till the Casket Drops that I actually like … oh wait, and it was produced by the Neptunes. I am starting to believe that Pharrell is the only person that can get a decent performance out of these two. No matter, I can’t wait for this album to drop. It’ll hopefully be a monster.
It’s been another one of those weeks where it seems like everyone is dropping some sort of project. One of my favorite DJs Jayvon just released a new mixtape full of original edits and flawless mixing. Filled with remixes by Kill the Noise and B. Rich along w/ originals by Designer Drugs, the mix is definitely an exercise in bass. When I first started listening to electronic music a decade and a half ago, I never would have expect the merger of sounds that’s happening in the US. I hope this shit keeps moving forward!
Rise of the Footsoldier is one of the most compelling football (soccer) hooligan movies since Gary Oldman’s appearance in the Firm. The flick follows Carlton Leach’s rise from typical hooligan to hired muscle to organized criminal to retirement. Yep thats right folks, this is based on a true story that eventually culminates in the famous Rettendon murders of 1995. As a kid that grew up in the American rave scene, it was quite interesting to watch how involved gangsters became in British club culture. I’m not so sure I would have done some of the shit I did knowing these guys ran the show.
So a day after I post their most recent work just to promote the upcoming show, The Hood Internet drops The Mixtape Volume 4 featuring some of their most recent work. If you are into hearing classic jams chopped up and rammed together w/ new joints, then you almost have to love The Hood Internet. I can’t wait for this show at Blu on December 3rd. Shit, I can’t wait for all 3 Muzique Boutique shows: 12/3 – The Hood Internet, 12/10 – Mark Farina, and 12/17 – DJ Dan!
Was chatting w/ DLake of Claire Hux and got linked on the CH remix of Ced Hughes’s jam “Jackers of the Swag”. If you are down with Claire Hux, then you already know what to expect….club anthems for days!
TADT (The American Dream Team) has proven to be one of the strongest crews out in electronic music once again with this mixtape. Featuring tunes from producers like Tomb Crew, Kill the Noise, and Reid Speed, Code-D’s Blue runs the gambit of low end tunes. And can someone tell me how the hell they got Naughty by Nature to drop them a heavy bass exclusive? I <3 dance music so much right now. It’s amazing to see the blend of all the various genres that I’m feeling.
I am always shocked when I find dubstep tapes posted on hip-hop blogs, and I felt the same way when I found this over at everyone’s J.Brookinz’s fav hip-hop blog 2dopeboyz. I take it that this is the east coast response to Dubstep LA, but not really … I dont know. I dig the project but I think something is lacking. Maybe I’m just not a fan of Elucid. Either way, gotta rep the heavy bass.
From the picture, I am sure some of you wondering why I would even question this, but I must admit that picture is rather flattering of Beth. Beth, the busty wife of Dog the Bounty Hunger, is a bit of an enigma. I am not sure if I am brave enough to fuck her. Yes, she has the ability to look like a hot middle aged slut at times, but she also has a tendency to look pretty haggard at times. Top that off w/ her being a bail enforcement agent, and I think this woman might be too much for me to handle. However, who hasn’t a middle aged woman w/ giant boobs?
Got linked on this the other day. Considering who linked me on it, I expected it to be something completely different. This release is a beautiful blend of R&B, funk, jazz, and synthpop all rolled into one. This is definitely easy listening music compared to what I usually post, but it’s still worth the download.
I gave you the stream a couple of weeks ago, here’s download. As a bonus, I threw up the Night Riders’ dedication to ugly girls which is also from Heavy Gun.
Recently, I have been trying to bring more and more original content to the site. A couple of weeks ago, I started thinking about how MHC should really have some sort of podcast or monthly mix that features all of the music being released in the heavy bass music spectrum. So far, I’ve only met a handful of DJs in Indiana that fits the mind frame I was looking for. Phenom was the first person that came to mind. As he never pigeonholes himself into one genre, Phenom is capable of bridging electro, fidget, and dubstep in a single set. Hope you enjoy our first edition of Heavy Bass Freqs.
I will hopefully be updating with a tracklist later. UPDATE – Tracklist below the cut.
MHC: Standard MHC Question: Who can pull more ass in Thomas Crown Affair: you or Paul?
Phenom: For sake of debate I would say Paul. He makes a lot more mixes and tracks compared to me so he is much more widely known and recognized on them interwebz, plus he’s a super fresh dresser, no Bruno*
Mary Anne Hobbes, the radio DJ that broke dubstep to the world, recently featured American producer Lorn on her mix show Experimental on the BBC’s Radio 1. Lorn is part of the now popular stateside glitch-hop scene that seems to blend classic trip hop w/ crazy time delays and other effects. Someone compared him to edIT, but I think he is more akin to the glitchy downtempo stuff that Evol Intent did on their last album. Either way, this minimix is well worth the listen.
A friend of mine recently spotted this over at Gizmodo and sent it my way for obvious reasons. Considering I have a certain affinity for the word, if someone were to get me this for X-mas, I would be extremely excited. *Hint, hint*
Imma let you finish, but this is the best sandbox of all time!
Wow, this shit makes me want to start writing hip-hop children’s books. I think my first would be a story about Lil Wayne and T.I. advocating gun safety, feel me?
Indianapolis’s very own Scott Matelic recently dropped his Party People EP on the Philadelphia based Crossfaded Bacon. The official release features a couple of originals from Scott as well as remixes by Emynd, King Tutt, and Scottie B. Everything on the EP is a Bmore club banger. In support of the EP, Mr. Matelic was nice enough to put together a promo mix featuring all of the tunes on the official release, a few remixes by Scott, and some local Indy heat. I haven’t even listened to this yet, but having watched Scott’s flawless mixing week in and out @ OMG, I am fairly confident when I say that I didn’t have to know the mix is solid.
