Dizzee Rascal – Dirtee TV.com (Mixtape)

4 Jan

Dizzee Rascal’s label Dirtee Stank just dropped an official label mixtape, but let’s be honest … Dizzee is on nearly every track on the project. It’s Dizzee’s tape. Anyway, I’m a fan. It features Dizzee murdering 25 grime and hip-hop track as if he’s returned to his Boy in da Corner hard rhymes versus Maths + English slick pop sound.

Darq E Freaker – Keep Watch Vol. XXXI (Mix)

20 Dec

Mishka linked up with UK grime producer Darq E Freaker for their 31st volume of the Keep Watch mix series. A few years ago with dubsteps rise in popularity, grime’s in frantic sounds quickly lost ground to the growling wobbles of 2008 dubstep. Due to that fact, I am happy to see the genre making a big comeback in the UK and hopefully a crossover in the US. I’ve always thought the genre could fit in well with Miami Bass.

Tracklist below.

Grey Granite x El Carnicer – Pixelated Lazer Face Bass Monster freEP

12 Oct

Grey Granite and El Carnicero’s creation Pixelated Lazer Face Bass Monster will be unleashed on 10/10/10:

What is a Pixelated Lazer Face Bass Monster?  It’s the culmination of the machinations of Grey Granite and El Carnicero over the past 6 months featuring gobs of the Butcher’s bass and stained with the Grey’s ramblings.  In the run-up to PLFBM, the evil scientists have created quite a stir with their singles “Not A Robot”, “Turn It On”, and “Get Grimey”, which have been featured on blogs like MOKB, Mostly Junk Food, Noise Porn, Rock the Dub, and White Label Nation.  These villains aren’t concerned with economic gain; you’ll be able to get your hands on Pixelated Lazer Face Bass Monster today, October 10, 2010 for FREE!

Over the past couple of years, Grey Granite has consistently distinguished himself from other vocalists by perpetually reinventing his style and jumping on anything that catches his interest.  Starting with his legendary Amplifies the Killers project to his recent immaculate album Lust Poisons Pride, Grey has been one of the few artists in the Midwest to successfully go left and follow his sonic dreams. His creativity has recently garnered the support of Kick Kick Snare, Ruby Hornet, Loyal KNG, Noise Porn, Nuvo, and Musical Family Tree and several other media outlets.  Now with his partner J. Brookinz, the duo have launched Heavy Gun Recordings and are beginning next portion of their journey.

The man behind the crazy production on PLFBM is the one an only El Carnicero.  El Carnicero aka the Butcher aka Aaron Berg has been solidifying his name as master of heavy bass for the past several years.  In the mid 2000s as grime was making it’s way across the Atlantic to the States, El Carnicero teamed up with Philly based producers Starkey and Dev79 to form the now infamous Slit Jockey Records.  In the past, the Butcher has produced tracks for Doodlebug of Digable Planets, Warrior Queen, and RikoDan of the Roll Deep Crew.  Beyond his recent work with Grey, Aaron is currently working on a new project with New York rapper Elucid entitled CapricornOne.

Grey Granite & Oreo Jones – Turn It On (Prod. by El Carnicero)

26 Jul

Grey Granite and El Carnicero’s journey to Pixelated Lazer Face Bass Monster continues with second single “Turn It On” featuring Oreo Jones:

Picking up where “Not A Robot” left off, Grey Granite and El Carnicero roll out their second singe from Pixelated Lazer Face Bass Monster “Turn It On” featuring Heavy Gunner Oreo Jones.  “Turn It On” is a pure party jam with a bouncy beat and psychedelic synths that compels the listener to have a good time and dance.  Both Grey and Oreo bring their spit game on this one.  Grey is at home rhyming about his love of High Life, women and parties.  And Oreo doesn’t care because he “ain’t got no underwear.”  Pixelated Lazer Face Bass Monster is coming this summer!

Numan – Skull Crusher

10 Dec

Slit Jockey is getting release a new 12″ ft. Numan and SDUK.  At first I was gonna review Clunge by SDUK as it’s the tune that enjoyed the most right away; however, I’ve change my mind.  This Numan tune is far too compelling to avoid.  Most of the song moves along like your typical mellow dubstep track, but then the song hits what sounds like an 8bit video game console throwing up.  I’m not sure if I like it or that it annoys me.  It’s definitely walking a thin line. … kinda like Printer Jam by Mistabishi.

Dyme Def – I Know (Prod. by Starkey)

16 Nov

This is a fairly huge moment for MHC.  The folks behind the Dubstep LA project have decided to exclusively debut the next single from the mixtape Dyme Def and Starkey’s “I Know” right here.  How fucking dope is that?  You should already know this Seattle/Philly collab from Plastician’s mix, but this is the unmixed version featuring the same dope verses from the guys of Dyme Def and the same bouncy beat Slit Jockey Records co-owner Starkey.

SORRY HAD TO BE PULLED …

OMFG TEKDBZ IS BACK!!!

13 Sep

Picture 1

In 2004, Hochi and Infiltrata (12th Planet) came together with MC Dre for the new classic West Coast Ridaz single on Photek’s TEKDBZ and sparked a whole new revolution in drum-n-bass dedicated to bridging the gap between jungle and American hip-hop.  Over the next few years, TEKDBZ turned out the monster single Fahrenheit 215 / Hit’em Hard and two monster mixtapes Heat Vols 1 & 2.  Then amidst all of the hype, the promised full album never seemed to materialize.  Today, Infiltrata, now most commonly known as 12th Planet, set the net ablaze with talk of a reunion.  I am not sure what will come of it, but I can only hope that it’s going to be some hip-hop bassline steez!  “I’m a hardcore junglist and a hip-hop veteran.  Mixing lyrics with these basslines is my medicine!”

For those of you who don’t know much about TEKDBZ, I am uploading their two seminal mixtapes so you can get a taste of why these cats were called the saviors of drum-n-bass.

Mr. J.Utah linked me with this mix the other day, and I just got around listening to it.  The mix comes from Philly producer BD1982 and features tons of signature Philly heavybass and even a remix of Indy resident El Carnicero.  If you are into dubstep / grime / and everything circulting, then you need to give this a play w/ the subs on blast.  Check El Carnicero and Motif at Blu Lounge in downtown Indy for their weekly PULSE every Wednesday night!

Oh shit, just realized this is a year old.  Still worth the listen.  Tracklist below the cut.

Right before I sat through 2 days of hell, I got an email from my girl Anna wanting me to help her sort some details for an upcoming tour, but she didn’t tell me with whom.  Then I got the info and about shit myself.  Annalyze is the new tour DJ for Lady Sovereign!!  Because I am hyped to have worked on the agreement, I thought I would go ahead and post the first single from her new album Jigsaw.

If you want information about Lady Sov & Anna’s tour dates, hit up Anna’s blog.  I will hopefully be at the Chicago date.
