As mentioned on Twitter earlier, Pusha is easily one of my top 5 rappers.  I’ll admit he’s seemed a little hit or miss for the past year, but who wouldn’t be shook after their manager took 35 year plea deal.  Dudes don’t just take pleas like that because they want the time.  They do it to protect those around them that might be implicated.  As Push declared on “What Dreams Are Made Of” “the bricks fell, I skipped jail, lived to tell about it … I’m what dreams are made of.”

IT’S HERE!  Till the Casket Drops by the Clipse has leaked in full!  There’s no way that I can post the whole thing, but I thought everyone might appreciate hearing the lead track.  Produced by Sean C and LV of Diddy’s Hitmen, Freedom is a massive and emotional tune that introduces the listeners to the mindset that the Clipse are in.  This is their last chance at major success, their manager is in prison, and the rap game is fucked up, so the Brothers Thorton go for broke.  This album is huge.  Make sure you go pick it up Dec. 8th!

Look at this … another tack off of the Clipse’s album Till the Casket Drops that I actually like … oh wait, and it was produced by the Neptunes.  I am starting to believe that Pharrell is the only person that can get a decent performance out of these two.  No matter, I can’t wait for this album to drop.  It’ll hopefully be a monster.

Clipse – Popular Demand (Popeyes) ft Cam’ron and Pharrell

I’ve been waiting for a Clipse track that I really wanted to bang, and I’ve kinda been look at this track as their final chance at redemption.  This joint does not disappoint.  It’s not necessarily the anthem that makes me want to go grind, but its definitely hot.  And thats probably the most original flow I’ve heard from Cam’ron in a hot minute.

Damn, now I want a 2 piece and biscuit.

Never get it twisted: Clipse are probably my favorite duo currently in the game and have been for a long time.  However, this shit that Malice keeps putting out under the pretense of a vlog is slightly overboard.  Do we really need someone to school the youth on street knowledge via Vimeo?

MHC Top 10 – April 09

Why do I always find myself struggling to keep up with my blog?  Anyway, I really meant to post this last weekend, but I fucked up and didn’t.  So when I went to put together my top 10 rap songs from April, the selection became ifinitely more difficult because I had to disclude gems from Em and Cam’s albums that leaked this week.  As I went back and looked at this top 10, I felt like April was a fairly slow month.  I can’t wait to bring you the May Top 10, because there will be some ill jams on that list.

Clipse’s Manager Caught up in $10 Mil Drug Ring

Clipse has been rapping about pushing weight for the past 10 years, and when they have lacked a label deal, they have always seemed to have the most cash, so it’s no surprise to anyone that their manager was the connect mentioned in all of their songs.  Just go and relisten to Hell Hath No Fury and try to tell me that shit was autobiographical.  My new questions is whether or not the impending indictment of their manager has led to their recent decrease in blow references.  Kinda Like a Big Deal ft Kanye contains very few mentions of moving bricks.  Just a thought ….

Clipse – Kinda Like a Big Deal ft. Kanye West [Prod. by DJ Khalil]

After hearing about a collab featuring the Brothers Thorton and Kanye West on a DJ Khalil beat three months ago, I went nuts!  Who hasn’t wanted to hear Clipse on some ill shit produced by someone other than the Neptunes.  The track finally leaks today, and I feel hella let down.  I love the Clipse.  Pusha and Malice are the best in the crack rap game, and Pusha might be up one of the top 10 writers working today, period.  However, this tune is fairly lacking.  I know they want a radio friendly banger, but this tune is only slightly better than Fast Lane or whatever from this summer.  To make it even worse, Kanye lyrically shows up both of the Clipse on this tune.  Hopefully whatever they did with Hitmen is better.

So I haven’t been posting as much “mainstream” hip-hop here lately, so I thought I would help try to even that out by posting a monthly top 10 of my favorite hip-hop/rap tunes.  I am going to to do my best not to include any electro or other ish in this list.  Due to the nature of most of the content on this list, I would download this quickly before it gets yanked.  This month’s number 1 is “Uptown” by Drake featuring Bun B & Lil Wayne.  Wayne’s verse at the end is my new fucking anthem … seriously …
